Description
Shorthagot, Harbinger of Ruin, is Tharizdun’s avatar — a being birthed from the Abyss itself to embody the Chained God’s will. He is the ultimate threat behind the campaign’s events. In the age of Netheril, Shorthagot infiltrated the Empire’s highest circles disguised as Arthindol the Terraseer, one of Netheril’s most trusted archmages. He manipulated and corrupted the greatest arcane minds of Netheril into creating the Great Machine at Thul Avenar — a device he told them would let them access a new form of magic, but which was in truth designed to awaken Tharizdun. When champions of Faerûn rose to oppose him, they defeated Shorthagot and used the very machine he had devised to imprison him. Bound by divine, mechanical, and magical forces, Shorthagot was sealed into a displacement prison beyond space and time within the Infernal Machine. His prison is slowly weakening as the millennia have passed, and his influence seeps through the barriers between planes, corrupting everything it touches.
